Fish Monday: Kakiage Tempura

Our fridge was in a position where we had many vegetables that were starting to wilt but I couldn't think of how to use them. But we also had just a little bit of shrimp and I didn't want to go buy more stuff for Fish Monday. So, a genius, I decided to make kakiage tempura! I was so excited to do this I could hardly sleep. I chopped all the veggies on my lunch break and cleaned the shrimp during a work meeting. I used a combo of this recipe https://www.japanesecooking101.com/kakiage-recipe/, another recipe I can't find rn but where the cook sounded like she was making it for the first time, and what I remember from watching Grandma Chiyo. I used all those for cooking technique but used whatever veggies had, which were zucchini, bell peppers, cabbage, red onion, and the shrimps, which I cut in half the long way. The batter didn't stick very well to the vegetables, I think because the peppers and cabbage have too much water, but I kind of expected something like that to happen. Still tasted good! And I think tasted even better as leftovers, which I didn't expect.

Candy Mix

Delicious, used Reese's pieces instead of M&Ms, a delight

Office Lunch

Isn't this kind of a funny boring lunch? But I had to go to the office and didn't think I'd have time to go buy anything so I had to figure out what I could bring from home and also eat quickly between meetings. The wrap has turkey and pepper jack.

Trial Lunch: Hot Dog Pastry

They moved immigration court to Annandale so now I get to try new pre-court food places. On Thursday, I went to the Korean bakery and got this delicious hot dog pastry and red bean mochi donut. The donut was heavy!!! Tasted good. I loved the hot dog pastry. I am excited about the food options at this new location.

Pizzas

After court, Janty and I went to JBGB and got pizza. Top one is breakfast pizza, bottom is a seasonal special with delicata squash, kale, and some kind of bacon- I heard jelly bacon, Janty heard duck bacon, maybe it is duck belly bacon? Idk but it was delicious.

Last night for dinner, we had udon and put some chicken that Janty made earlier in the week on top and it was sooo good. Now I am going to eat leftover pizza and look at the Limoncello menu.

Do you always do fish Monday? That’s such a good idea. Maybe I will too
