Maze Gohan

Made maze gohan with a mix packet Mom sent a while ago. Had leftover pork from the soba, chopped up and cooked some bok choy with shoyu, ginger paste, garlic...maybe sugar? I don't remember if I put sugar in that but it seems like something I would do. I might be getting confused with what I put on the pork. The first three things I definitely put, though. Pretty good! Making this kind of dinner really makes me feel like Grandma Chiyo (one leftover element, one newly-cooked element, flavor packet. I never knew until we started doing cooking lessons but she uses flavor packets a lot! and then usually adds a little extra fresh stuff).

The Remix: Breakfast Fried Rice

Scrambled some eggs, set aside. Chopped up the last of the pork belly, cooked it in the pan with some oil and the rest of the mazegohan. Added back in the eggs, some salt and pepper. Delish! I used my cup measure to make this cute little ball. I usually like to spread my rice out into a thin layer, especially if it's the vehicle for like, sauce or curry, but for fried rice I think this is cute and fun. Also topped with green onion from the windowsill.

Cheese and Pita

Ok those up there were the more exciting things. Here's some cheese we had with pretty stale pita bread. Still tasted good, though. Janty heated it up in the toaster oven. He also made us cappuccinos.

The Remix: Cheese in Bread

Like the pita, this bread was stale, but I did the old trick of wetting it, then heating in the oven for a while and it perked right up. After I did that, though, I realized it was like, hollow...which was annoying because I wanted to make toast. But I used the hollow hole as a little holder for a piece of cheese. Worked kind of. Not really with this piece, but I did this method again another time and it worked better that time.
